Safe at Work Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why do you need my name?

We need your name because we may need to contact you for follow-up information. We also use your name and address to send your gift certificate for participating in the study.

Your privacy is very important to us. We will not share your personal information with your manager, the hospital administration, or anyone outside of the study. (Details about how we keep your information private can be found in the consent form.) All information that is presented will show the combined data from all participants – individual responses will not be told to anyone.

  2. I thought this was about workplace violence. Why are you asking me about other things that have happened to me?

Violence may occur in your life besides work. We are trying to identify factors that may put you at risk for workplace violence. We also want to understand more about how workplace experiences on top of other life experiences affect your work and your health.

  3. Why is the questionnaire so long?

The questions are very important for us to understand the factors related to workplace violence. After obtaining feedback from our pilot study at Howard County General Hospital, we have decreased our final questionnaire by 1/3. We need the remaining questions to find out ways that workplace violence affects people, their health and their well-being.

  4. What if I don't want to answer some of the questions

If you are uncomfortable with a question, please skip it. But please answer as many of the questions that you can. Some questions have an asterisk (*) next to them. You will not be able to continue to the next question unless it is answered.

We greatly appreciate your answers to all of the questions. The more complete information we are able to obtain, the greater success we will have in determining the factors related to workplace violence that affects a person's life, health and well-being.
